On 30 Oct, Venezuela withdrew its ambassador from Brazil. The move comes after Brazil vetoed Venezuela’s application to join BRICS. Venezuela has argued that Brazil resorted to interventionist and rude statements against it.
The diplomatic Spat has further widened as the Brazilian foreign ministry criticized Venezuela. In a statement, released on Friday, it read, “The choice of personal attacks and rhetorical escalations, instead of political and diplomatic channels, does not align with the respectful manner in which the Brazilian government treats Venezuela and its people.” In addition, a Brazilian government advisor informed elected representatives that Brazil does not favour an indefinite expansion of BRICS grouping.

Although both the neighbouring Latin American countries are being led by Leftist leaders, there is considerable friction between both. Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro was re-elected after national elections concluded on 28th July. But, external observers in the US raised doubts over the fairness of the election results.
Notably, Brazil did not explicitly accept the election results in Venezuela as well. Its President, Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva, reportedly asked for election results to be tabled in public.
