The most successful feature of 2026 Gen-Z protests was the viral sharing of sentiments among the populace. It achieved something that the mainstream media is designed to deliver, but consistently failed of late. I whole-heartedly endorse the view that mainstream news media in the country are not doing justice with their content. India is an extremely diverse country and it needs to curate opinions from experts in their respective fields as well as fairly present opinions from Kargil to Nicobar. To articulate my concerns, I give you a few topics to think about:
-How many documentaries have you seen which have been made by Indian media?
I used to. Now, it is either drowned out, or there is little good documentaries. I would love to see some awards please.
-Can you recall any news media getting invested in any community’s concerns for months to years?
This is how you know that the News media is a force for change in our society.
-Do you feel that the media actively engages new experts, community-members, politicians and former administrative personnel in their panels?
I feel PhDs and Professors must become a regular thing in discussions. Who do you think read about an particular topic in detail!
-Do you feel mainstream media is overtly invested in political and sensional topics only?
I crave for a detailed coverage of analytical news that simplifies complex things & engages experts.
-Does Mainstream News critically analyze national topics & ask technical questions on behalf of citizens to government?
Anyone who says people are the best judges- is either a politician or a pretender. People are best judges when well-informed. It is duty of News media to ask questions that people are unable. Not all people are experts or interact with experts from multiple fields. It is the media’s CARDINAL DUTY.
-Is our mainstream media content educational in nature?
No. It is not made in a way that a person can structurally understand a topic, remember key points and learn fundamentals.
-Are there enough patrons funding News Companies and representing their boards?
I have no idea. But, hiring people is costly and I am sure Indian news agencies need to hire a lot of teams to compete with the likes of AP, Reuters or BBC. Slow but steady patron-support to business is required.
–Do you pay for your news?
Unless you pay, good news is not possible. Period.
I can not underline this enough- India needs a strong and ethical Mainstream news Media now. Only then, some Indian news media organizations can realistically expand to being noticed by a global audience.
